Where We Are

The New Inn is situated on a crossroads in the centre of the picturesque village of Thornton Dale. We have on-site parking in our car park to the rear of the pub and are ideally situated to explore both Thornton Dale itself and the wider surroundings. Located in the North York Moors National Park, Thornton is a picture perfect village with a collection of pretty cottages including the iconic thatched cottage, fields and woodland, village green, a gently meandering stream and duck pond. It has a mini-supermarket, newsagent/general store, post office, pharmacy, bakery, and a whole host of local shops.

Nearby Attractions

There are many attractions nearby and we offer the perfect central base to visit them from. If you want to explore further afield by public transport, the Coastliner and Scarborough & District buses stop just outside The New Inn and can take you to nearby places such as Pickering (2 miles), Malton (10 miles), Helmsley (15 miles), Scarborough (15 miles), Whitby (20 miles), and further afield to York (30 miles) or Leeds (55 miles) to name but a few. Dalby Forest is on our doorstep with treetop adventures at Go Ape, a great selection of walking and mountain bike routes as well as yearly concerts. The historic market town of Pickering is home to the North York Moors Steam Railway which can take you at a leisurely pace to Grosmont, Goathland (aka Aidensfield in the classic TV series Heartbeat) and the seaside town of Whitby where you can climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey. Other coastal resorts a stones throw away include Filey (20 miles) with its 5 mile long beach, and Scarborough where you can either explore its history looking round the English Heritage site of Scarborough Castle, or enjoy the more modern side whiling away the hours in the wide range of shops and beachfront arcades. For modern history, Eden Camp (7 miles) is a museum set within the grounds of an original World War Two prisoner of war camp. For the thrillseekers among you, Flamingo Land theme park and zoo is a mere 6 miles away, whilst those of you looking for a quieter pace may prefer a stroll over the North York Moors, or a wander round the home and grounds of Castle Howard (18 miles). Whatever your preference, there is plenty to see and do near us.
